Sometimes a cavity develops so low in the tooth that it goes reallly close to the supporting structures. Fixing that cavity would leave a restoration that is too deep into the "gum" and therefore violates something known as "Biologic Width". This may lead to: Chronic pain, chronic inflammation of the gingiva and/or unpredictable loss of alveolar bone. Fortunately, this space can be recreated in our office by a simple surgical procedure called Crown Lengthening.
